2016 BMW M2 Debut at NAIAS

BMW blog - Feb 22BMW’s newest entry, the M2, was one of the major players at this year’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

As the 1M established BMW’s ability to deliver a small, high-performance sports car, the M2 coupe builds on the handling and performance of its predecessor to deliver a more dynamic ride. The M2 borrows parts from its higher-end siblings, the M3 and M4, such as the suspension, crankshaft and pistons, to give it an edge against rival vehicles. However, BMW states that the M2 will be a standalone model, not meant to replace the M3 or M4.

For a small car, the M2 comes out swinging with 365 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This power is all delivered via BMW’s famous 3.0 litre Inline-6 engine, boasting a TwinScroll turbocharger. In true BMW fashion, the M2 is available with 6-speed manual transmission to keep the sport experience pure. For a more relaxing drive, this can be switched for the M DCT, BMW’s signature dual-clutch transmission.

The M2 is fully equipped for sporty speed or tight urban navigation with a fully variable differential, M-performance tuned electric steering and high performance brakes. The M2 will be commercially available with even more options as of Spring 2016.
